经常, loved ones live a significant distance away and must rely on other means to communicate and check on their family member. This program allows us to engage with a segment of our population we might otherwise never meet. We can also potentially offer information as to other resources which may be unknown to our citizens and their relatives who live outside of Doña安娜县.

This program is designed to offer citizens of Doña安娜县 a method to interact with our Office. The program is designed for those who are 60 years of age or older and would benefit from periodic visits from one of our staff.

We can also potentially offer information as to other resources which may be unknown to our citizens and their relatives who live outside of Doña安娜县.

Each month, a staff member will meet with his/her Amigo in person or by telephone. The contact is brief in nature and designed to keep a consistent presence in their lives. 如果需要, staff can alert the out-of-town relative concerning a change or possible issue with the Amigo. For those who may not have any relatives, this program provides a path to creating a bond between our staff member and the Amigo.

Message from the Sheriff

As a caregiver of an elderly relative for several years, I was in the position of living over a 100 miles away from her. I relied often on both friends and employees to make sure her daily needs were met. My goal had been to keep her in her own home for as long as possible at the end of her life.

Those 3 years were difficult times for me and my family, as there was a constant worry about her welfare. I would have welcomed a consistent and reliable Amigo for her; someone who would stop in, or call on a regular schedule to check in on her.

Not only can DASO provide this service, but given our professional expertise, we can be conduits to other local services which Amigos and their families may not be aware.

As Sheriff, I am pleased to offer this service to qualifying Doña安娜县 residents. Programs such as this are the true essence of proactive policing. I strongly believe we can rebuild the fabric of neighborhoods and communities one Amigo at a time.
